The First DayBack to News
2013-07-25
Despite the characteristic nervousness of ‘’opening days’’, the first day of the European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship took place without major problems.
The sun began to shine and the volunteers were already on site, making sure that all the necessary material would be available to all, athletes or not, when needed and under any circumstances. From logistics to medical support, through communication and refereeing, all volunteers and technical staff proved to be at the level demanded by the event, giving proof of professionalism and diligence.
This being the first day of the championship, all teams had the chance to compete in the sands next to Edifício Transparente. The stadium was filled with athletes ready to proceed with the group stage which ends tomorrow, 25th.

Occurring without major incidents, the day was marked by constant expressions of fair play by the athletes and the enjoyable atmosphere, which, despite the heat that was felt, did not cease to reign.

In between matches elapsed, we highlight the competitive game between Germany and Norway, lasting for 3 sets, from where Germany came out on top. Another team that also stood out was Belgium that, defending the status of ''novice'' in European championships, eventually won against Poland, the champion of the latest EUSA games.
Among the Portuguese teams, some, such as Fabricio Barros and Januario Alvar, Sebastião Alves and Simão Teixeira and last but not the least the duo of Tania Oliveira and Juliana Rosas won all their matches in this first day of competition.

It is expected this to be a full week of emotions, shared with all those who give up the diving and suntan to ‘’take a peek ‘’at the stadium and experience the best that sports have to offer. To whom is not able to move up to the venue, they are allowed to access all the information through social media, updated to the minute.
