The Porto Polytechnic Institute started its activity in 1985 as a result of the relaunch of the public Higher Education Polytechnic in Portugal, having established itself as a reference institution in higher education. A universe of 20 000 people, organized into seven schools (ISEP, ISCAP, ESE, ESMAE, ESEIG, ESTGF, ESTSP) distributed throughout six counties in the district of Porto, making IPP the largest polytechnic in the country.One of the main distinguishing features of this Polytechnic Institute is the diversity of its units, possessing a history and an identity of its own. The awareness and respect for this diversity are fundamental conditions for building a real cohesion, rooted in the diversity and institutional solidarity.
The educational offer reflects this diversity, allowing the fulfillment of the vocation and potential of each student who attend one of the many courses in areas that cover the various fields of Science and Technology, Engineering, Management, Health, or the Music Education. Currently, more than 18,000 students attend Porto Polytechnics Schools, located in six cities in the district of Porto: Porto, Matosinhos, Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde, Felgueiras and Vila Nova de Gaia.
The Porto Polytechnic produces knowledge, culture and technology in strategic areas and its basic mission consists in the dissemination and transmission of knowledge, valuing people, region and country. This ability, which is not intrinsic, but created and constantly improved, promotes the formation of a renewed basis of social value, forward-looking and modern, based on a continuous internal reflection, open to society and working life. Participates actively in different cooperation programs, having an extensive network, both nationally and internationally, of over 240 agreements with universities from 27 European countries and also Brazilian Universities.
