At the fourth day of competition on the 9th European Universities Beach Volley Championship the stands were filled with enthusiastic supporters from all countries, who cheered during the entire day for their favorite athletes. Not even the rain or the unpleasant weather discouraged the viewers. The bad weather didn't also stop the staff and the volunteers, who kept doing their tasks with the usual joy and energy. The day started with a drizzle and low temperature, but at mid-morning, the sun showed up and stayed with us during the rest of the day.
The athletes energy was high and the will to win was bigger than ever. The emotions were up and it was possible to notice the numerous reactions at the end of each set. Obviously, the players could not avoid the feeling of disappointment when losing a game, especially when the win was at sight.
It was also a day with many competitive games both in male and female competition, as the match between Schreiber / Kruckenberg (GER) and Barros / Alvar (POR) proves. During the three sets, the distance between both teams was never superior to one point and it was practically impossible to predict a winner until the game reached his end. The Portuguese emerged victorious and advanced into the next round.
In the women’s competition, it was no different. Among the games, the highlight goes to Norway / Portugal, with the Portuguese team winning out and guaranteeing a place in the semi-finals. They will face the Czech team, who made a 3 games victory streak today.
Tomorrow is the last day of this championship and the day promises to be full of celebration. After the finals, there will be an award ceremony and a closing ceremony, where all the participants are expected to participate in. The expectation is high and we’re all looking forward to that.
