After four days of competition and many hours of effort and struggle, two teams emerged victorious and are now the new Beach Volleyball European University champions. Both finals were tight until the end, proving that the level of this tournament was very high and the final rankings were based on the details from each team.
In the men’s competition, after a final between the two teams from University of Lodz, Poland, the victory went, as obvious, to the Polish side. Although they come from the same university, all the players made it look like a game between two different countries, as all the points were intense and well disputed until the very end. The Wojtasik/Lech team won the gold medal, after a two sets victory against Makowski/Sobczak. The podium got complete with the Hindrichsen/Muller, from Germany, who won the bronze medal match against Norwegians Retterholt/Solhaug.
In the ladies side, the gold medal stayed at home. Juliana Rosas/Tânia Oliveira, from University of Fernando Pessoa. The Portuguese girls took advantage from the large support that came from the stands and reached the highest position on the podium. The 2-1 victory against Filip/Soja, the Polish team, guaranteed a first time European University Beach Volleyball title to Portugal. The Germans Basan/Skorupka completed the podium, after a 2-1 victory on the bronze medal match after the Czech duo.
After the award and closing ceremony, all the participants will relax and say goodbye to Portugal in a memorable party, which will take place at Casa do Livro, a well-known bar in Porto.
